SHNA Board Meeting Minutes – 2/8/16

Board members present: James Montalbando, Bob Stembridge, Tom Ocken, Elizabeth Doak, Katy Braziel Sign-in Sheet

Others present: Jeanie Moore, Richard Hallett Sign-in Sheet

The meeting, held at the Heights Community Center, was called to order at 7:03 pm

Neighbor concern: Jeanie Moore (renting 2119 Silver SE) read a hostile letter she and her husband had received about parking in the front yard of their property. Vigilante Letter (Their landlord had asked them not to park in the front yard, but they did.) This was not the form letter the SHNA Association has used in the past, (which is courteous). Rather it contained obscenities and threats. We encouraged her to contact A P D.

APD: There is a new Police Commander for the Southeast area: Commander JJ Griego. We decided to invite him and one of his staff to the March meeting. James will do this.

Security Guard at Smith’s: Mardon Gardella (Spruce Park NA) reported that Smith’s has retained full time security for the Yale/Lead store.

Historic Tax Credits/Historic Overlay Zone Workshop: Bob and Katy have arranged for this workshop with Harvey Kaplan and Mary Ellen Hennessy, to be held at Central United Methodist Church on 2/23/16 at 7:00pm. Tom is making flyers and a brochure. Food will be provided by Lobo Beast on Central. The Board voted up to $150 for sundries, printing costs, and food (if Lobo Beast isn’t able to provide). James encouraged everyone to attend.

Students in the Health Sciences Program and their professors shared the results of their SH neighborhood survey from last summer. We were unaware that they had been doing this, but Katy attended their seminar and asked for an email with their analysis. Overall, their view of the neighborhood was poor.

Albuquerque Comprehensive Plan: Bob reported from the meeting, which he attended, along with 200+ other people. In early May, there will be a hearing before the EPC on the plan.

Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART): Bob attended a meeting last Wednesday on the proposed Rapid Transit plan. We’ll know tomorrow if Albuquerque was awarded the funds.

Tire shop on Yale: EPC hearing on 2/16/16 if anyone can go.

Voting problems: Last week’s local election had – as usual – poor turnout, exacerbated by limited, new locations and poor signage. Several Board members had complained to the City and the County.

Neighborhood Water: Bob reported that the water at his house is cloudy and reddish. Possibly this is due to the construction up the street at 1924 Silver. Bob has contacted ABCWUA.

The SHNA Annual Report to the City of Albuquerque was submitted.  SHNA Annual Report

The Albuquerque Comp Plan status was updated ABC Comp Plan Update

Meeting adjourned: 8:02
