South east area command: Next Meeting Thursday 8/15/19

Councilor Benton’s state update on gun regulation.

• Red flag laws

Councilor Benton’s goals:

• Tackling climate change.
• Reforestation- adopt a street tree program.
• Building APD backup with quality officers.
• Downtown revitalization- getting rid of nuisance buildings.
• Scattered community housing for homeless with councilors on site. San Antonio model.

Historic overlay issues on Silver

Albuquerque cleanup last Saturday in September. {Dumpster day}

Presbyterian Expansion: Bike blvd parking garage issues- still have entrance off silver.

            – No plans to try to extract further concessions from Presbyterian

Roosevelt Park- food trucks at 50% (have reached out to Nomad’s), music at 100% booking, insurance needed. Check on needle cleanup.

Treasurer replacement for Jill Marley Berry:Tax implications discussed.

Ashleigh Abbott (2002 Silver Ave SE) nominated as board member.

            She was elected on unanimous voice vote.

• Getting money from Greenbrier film production company
• Should we create a 501c? Not likely
• New roofing rules for HPO’s. (Historical protection overlay) Meeting is at 3 o’clock Wednesday.
• Possible roundabout at Silver and Buena Vista

–  All of the Neighborhood Historic street sign markers are missing now.

• Overhaul of zoning code
• Making a more integrated process
• Paring many zones down to categories12000 to 20
• Restrictions on grandfathering zoning rules
• Zoning concerns of 1607 Silver Ave to RT
• Set a goal of being more proactive with HPO guidelines

Len Romano and Jay Rembe led a push to get more police presence on Central Avenue, all along the corridor. Here is the report, via Councilor Pat Davis, regarding their success in pushing the city to beef up the patrols:
