SHNA MEETING MINUTES – 9/12/11

Meeting called to order: 7:00 pm

Board Minutes: The Board Minutes from 8/08/11 were approved.

Treasurer’s report: The Treasurer’s Report will be presented bi-annually because of the limited activity.

Trees & Parkways: Katy reported that Pete Saiz, COA Parks Department is having the parkways on Silver reseeded as a consequence of maintenance problems. Also, trees are being replaced in the 2000 and 2100 blocks of Gold and in front of 1813 Silver. Excessive weeds in other parts of the landscape will be dealt with by pre-emergent weed treatment in fall 2011 and spring 2012. The sorry state of the Yale landscape is still being discussed.

Cleaning Alleys & Gold: Ernie Metzgar had planned to attend this SHNA Board meeting to discuss future collaboration with the neighborhood on keeping the alleys clean. He was not able to attend. However, a letter thanking his team for the August Alleys Cleanup was sent to County employees and elected officials the week after the cleanup.

Zoning: Katy met with Bill Cobb, Debbie Stover and Matt Conrad (Zoning Dept.)  egarding several long-standing concerns:

  • 1502 Silver: Unpermitted extra dwelling unit
  • 1623 Silver & 215/2217 Pine & 1700 Gold: Gordon wrote a letter describing problem.  The Safe Cities Strike Force is in progress
  • 401 Maple: Storage units
  • M&M Smoke Shop: Multiple complaints
  • 210 Sycamore: Possible added dwelling units & previous zoning citations

Crime Prevention: Sandi Pino, APD Crime Prevention Specialist, will attend our next meeting at 7:00 to talk about crime prevention and about things going on in our  neighborhood.

SHNH Cleanup: Neighborhood clean-up scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2011. We’ll meet at Gordon’s house. He’ll pick up bags and gloves. Elizabeth & Katy will bring water for us. We’ll focus on cleaning up Gold and its adjacent cross streets.

2011 Neighborhood Outreach Grant Program Application: Matt and Ian are responding to the RFP for SHNA. The application will focus on crime prevention. Grant amount, if awarded will be $3,000. Mat and Ian will try to get as much neighborhood input as possible in this short time frame.

Current Neighborhood Outreach Grant Program – Website Development: Maria is working with individuals to take photos and to design a logo. Photographer – Timothy B. Anderson of Cygnet Press 88-8937 will be contacting those who expressed an
interest in having their house photographed for the website during the next week. He will charge the Board $750.00 for his service. Gregg McPherson will design the logo. Also, we received a check for $750 from the Grantor for our website so far. Matt has submitted his invoice for his work as webmaster.

Action Plan: Katy has been unable to get a facilitator for our retreat to develop Vision, Goals and Action Plans for the Board. Ian offered to help.
