Farmers Market

The ABQ Uptown Growers Market will set up shop this summer in the Presbyterian parking lot. Here are the details:

We open the last Tuesday in June, the 25th, and will be there every Tuesday morning 7 am until 1 pm through the month of October.

For our first market in June and possibly into early July, I would expect mostly spring greens, like kale, chard, lettuce, spinach, some fresh herbs, garlic and maybe shallots and for those that arrive at opening time, a few tomatoes. By mid July the tomatoes will be prolific along with squash, cucumbers, corn, melons, peppers and many others. We also have local raw honey, some great breads including gluten free, soaps and local crafts. We are still registering vendors, and expect new ones throughout the growing and harvest season.

Luminarias lit up the night

Christmas Eve, 2012 in Silver Hill was quiet, cold, and lit by thousands of luminarias.  We hope you had a chance to walk throught the neighborhood and witness this New Mexico traditional lighting.  Craig Wallace, Chair of the event this year and many volunteers placed luminarias along the medians of Silver Ave., in our new landscaped medians on University Blvd., and in the Triangle Park at Lead and Yale.  Setting up the luminarias provided a chance for neighbors/volunteers to meet, get to know each other and create a work of art for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.  Thanks to Craig, his block captains, and all of the spontaneous volunteers who showed up to take part!

Silver Hill Neighborhood Luminarias

As it has for the last thirty-some years, the Silver Hill Neighborhood Association is sponsoring the annual Christmas Eve Luminaria display.  We’re seeking block captains and volunteers for Silver Avenue from Sycamore to Yale.  Also this year, we plan to decorate the newly planted medians on University Blvd. between Gold and Coal as well as the Triangle Park at Lead and Yale.   If any residents along the newly christened Lead and Coal want to oversee the setting up of luminarias along the stretch of those streets, please let us know by Dec. 20th.

Contact Craig at craigw@flash.net or James at 505.243.0827.  Bags and candles will be avilable at 1515 Silver SE.  Sand will be dropped off at strategic locations.

This annual event is a lot of work; all volunteers will be greatly appreciated.  In the afternoon of Dec. 24, when you see someone setting up luminarias and you have a little time, please come out to help them.  It will be a little Christmas gift to your neighbors!
